Officials with Atlantic City Race Course in New Jersey have announced that the track will be closing its doors for good this Friday (January 16).
A report by John Brennan in The Bergen Record states that the track’s operator, Greenwood Racing, announced the decision late last week.
The article has quoted Greenwood’s president, Joe Wilson, as saying “We regret to announce that we must close Atlantic City Race Course immediately due to continuous business decline in the industry, the current regional economic climate and the absence of alternative revenue opportunities.”
The report explains that for roughly the past 15 years the track has operated a very small meet with a handful of live Thoroughbred race dates in order to retain its simulcasting licence.
