Billy Davis, Jr. enjoyed a banner night at Georgian Downs on Tuesday thanks to his win in the $15,000 Preferred Trot with Charmbo Tie in addition to making four more trips to victory lane during the 12-race card.
Race favourite Logans Hero battled with Mr Genesis to the quarter pole in a :27-second clip before the latter muscled his way to the position of command. Charmbo Tie, in the meantime, tucked into the six-hole and was allowed to stalk what turned out to be a fiery tempo. Mr Genesis hit the half in :56 before giving way to Green Day in the backstretch. That millionaire sprinted to the three-quarter pole in a demanding clip of 1:24.3 before being gobbled up in the final strides by Charmbo Tie. Davis summoned :29.3 closing speed from the gelding, who got up to win by a head over Green Day. Mr Genesis stayed for the third prize.
Trainer Jack Rier of Kitchener shares ownership on the five-year-old son of Ken Warkentin-Hetties Charm with Randy Rier of Hanover, ON. The homebred shaved nearly five seconds off his lifetime mark and went over $100,000 in career earnings with the tally.
Davis’ five-win performance also included triumphs with Julieanne W (1:58.4), Standford Bridge (1:58.1), Cracker Stoney (1:55.4) and CMR Windmach (1:56.4).
