Trot Insider has compiled a list of Canada’s 2019 leading drivers and trainers at racetracks across the country in recognition of their accomplishments.
Sylvain Filion reclaimed the spot atop the Canadian driving ranks with more than $6.08 million earned from 1,851 starts. He finished slightly better than last season’s leading driver Louis-Philippe Roy, who earned just under $30,000 less than Filion.
Marc St. Louis, Jr. was the nation's leading dash winner with 340 victories on the season. St. Louis also topped the driving charts at Dresden Raceway, Hiawatha Horse Park, Leamington Raceway at the The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Richard Moreau, a O'Brien Awards finalist for the seventh consecutive year, continued to lead trainers in Canada as he sits less than 100 victories away from 6,000 in his career. Moreau topped the standings in wins (285) and earnings ($4.55 million) while also leading trainers in earnings at both Woodbine Mohawk Park and Flamboro Downs.
Kelly Hoerdt posted career best numbers in 2019 and sported the best driving and training averages in the nation. As a driver, his 247-180-129 summary from 895 starts helped a sparkling 0.435 UDRS. On the training side, Hoerdt posted 167 wins, 124 second-place and 88 third-place finishes from 594 starts with a 0.446 UTRS.
All statistics include Canadian starts from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019.
