C Major Hanover closed out Georgian Downs' 2011 harness racing season on Saturday night by completing a sweep of the Camerons Pacing Series
. The series was for non-winners of $25,000 lifetime as of November 30, 2011.
Driver James MacDonald worked out a perfect second over trip for the Art Major gelding, who rallied home over the 'good' surface in :28.1 to nip the pacesetters, Cardinal Zin and Anthony MacDonald, at the wire in 1:55 flat. Mr Big Head closed well to grab third for driver Billy Davis Jr.
C Major Hanover paid $3.80 to win as the fan favourite. The bay gelding was claimed on Nov. 28 at Woodbine Racetrack for $21,000 by trainer Robert Fellows of Rockwood, Ont., Arpad Szabo of Bradford, Ont., and Michael Magnus of North York, Ont. He has since earned a close second-place finish at Woodbine and three wins in the Camerons Series -- his latest in Saturday's $49,800 final marked his sixth win of his three-year-old season in 17 starts.
C Major Hanover, who only made one start as a freshman, has banked $54,775 lifetime.
Trainer Dean Nixon recorded three wins on the 10-race program with Tsunami Dream ($52.60) and Misty Dreamer ($4.90), driven by Travis Bowman, and the Tony Kerwood-driven Jds Caleb Man ($5.30). His training triple completed a career-best season in which his students won 67 races and over $420,000 in purses.
