Here is a recap of the winning photos:

April – Standardbreds In Action – Melissa Hutchinson of Abbotsford, B.C. and her photo of of five year old mare Lil Dudes Sharona.

The mare (Lil Dudes Sharona) had taken some well-deserved time off and this photo shows her first training trip at a farm since her break! “She was flying around the track, so I thought I would snap a few shots for Alina,” explained Hutchinson. Since then, the mare has been retired and is currently at Greener Pastures, British Columbia’s Standardbred Horse Adoption Society to set off on a new career.

May – Frisky Foals – Madonna Morrison of Charlottetown, P.E.I. for her photo of Marine Band a colt out of Tymal Maroma at Meridian Farms in Milton, P.E.I.

Madonna’s photo is of foal Marine Band, a colt born March 29th at 3:15 a.m. He is a rambunctious little guy who loves to kick his feet up in the air and be independent. “He's always getting himself into trouble because he likes to run off without mom” Madonna explained.

June – Driver Fever – Chelsea Chase of DeWinton, AB for her shot of Come On Kathryn and Jim Marino taken at Century Downs Racetrack & Casino in Calgary, Alta.

“I try not to always concentrate on the same person/stable/horse; I like to get as much of everyone as I can,” said Chelsea. “Marino was scoring down during a post parade and it was the right time and right place for me.” Come On Kathryn is trained by Ashleigh Hensley, “Ashleigh`s horses are some of my favorites to snap pictures of as the pink (harness) stands out so well” Chelsea explained.

July – Friends At The Races – Tessa MacKinnon of Souris, P.E.I. for her photo of Julia Clow sporting a pair of bell boots at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park.

“I had just bought bell boots for my trotter when Julia came running up to me with a crazy hairdo so with some creative thinking I captured this picture,” Tessa explained. “Julia is only young but loves the horses and helps out as much as she can with her parents, Les and Deanna Clow. There is never a dull day at the track with Julia around!”

August – Behind The Scenes – Tom Riley of Roseneath, Ont. for the photo of his four-year-old son Lane Riley poulticing pacing mare Solid Queen.

“I took the photo at our farm in Roseneath a couple weeks ago when Lane was helping me. Lane loves to help with the horses and it was cute how he was being so careful putting the poultice on”.

The mare in the picture is Solid Queen, a six-year-old daughter of Riverboat King who is owned by Dwayne Soulliere of Belle River, Ont. Dwayne had bought the mare stateside a couple of months ago and has since been trained at Riley Racing Stable.

“We trained her back from injury and she just started back racing last week,” Tom explained.

September – Meet My Horse – Faith Megens of Cambridge, Ont. for her photo of herself posing with her grandfather’s horse Lexus Diamond.

The picture was taken at her Opa’s farm in Puslinch, Ont., on September 24 by her mother Stacey Newman. Lexus Diamond is a two-year-old filly who is owned, trained and driven by Faith’s grandfather William Megens. She is Faith’s favourite horse because she is so loving.

“I love my horse, Lexus Diamond because she loves to snuggle me and eat carrots!” explained Faith.

The winner will receive a Grand Prize which will include a $50 gift card to the racetrack of their choice and an enlargement of their winning photo framed or plaque mounted!
