Jug Future Wagering Details

Published: July 14, 2008 10:00 am EDT

Future wagering on the Little Brown Jug will be offered three times leading up to the 63rd renewal of the three-year-old pacing classic on September 18 at the Delaware, OH Fair. Each future wager will be for a period of four days.

Wagers will be accepted at racetracks and on internet sites throughout North America and Europe. The future wager allows fans to bet early on all three-year-olds who are eligible to the Jug. The minimum bet is $2.00 and all future wagers are win betting only.

There will be three separate betting pools for the 63rd Little Brown Jug in the two months leading up to the race with the winner of each pool being determined by the official first place finisher in the 2008 Little Brown Jug to be raced September 18.

Each of the three betting pools will be offered for a period of four days as follows:

12 p.m., July 24 through 11:30 p.m. July 27. This is the weekend following the Meadowlands Pace at The Meadowlands.

12 p.m. August 21 through 11:30 p.m. August 24. This is the weekend after the Battle of Brandywine Final at Harrah's Chester and the week before the Cane Pace Final at Freehold Raceway.

12 p.m. September 14 through 11:30 p.m. September 17. This is during the first four Grand Circuit afternoons of racing at the Delaware, OH Fair.

All of the horses entered for the 2008 Little Brown Jug and their post positions will be known following the draw on Saturday morning, September 13 at the log cabin on the backstretch of the fairgrounds.

"For the third year our fans at the track here in Delaware will have the opportunity to place future wagers at the regular betting windows throughout the fairgrounds," said Phil Terry, director of marketing.

Tell All, who won the 2007 Little Brown Jug, paid $18.00 in the first pool; returned $28.20 in the second pool; and paid $8.60 in the third pool. Tell All paid $6.00 on a $2 win ticket Jug Day.

Terry will again have a team of racing analysts and handicappers select 23 horses for each pool. The rest of the horses will be packaged together into one "field" wager. The field will open at 5-1 odds. The horses included in each of the three wagering pools will be listed in alphabetical order.

Comprising the team of handicappers are Dave Bianconi (Northfield Park), Roger Huston (The Meadows), Sam McKee (The Meadowlands), Paul Ramlow (USTA), Gordon Waterstone (Horseman & Fair World) and Jay Wolf (Delaware, OH). Simulcast Director Jason Settlemoir will compile the selections of the panel and establish morning line odds for each of the top 23 horses.

Every three-year-old pacer in North America is included in the Jug field because if a colt wins the Cane Pace he can be supplemented into the Jug.

The official fields for each Little Brown Jug future wager will be released at the standard time of 48 hours before the start of wagering. At that time past performance and program information also will be made available.
