Trot Magazine, Canada's leading horse racing publication, is seeking an enthusiastic Graphic Designer to bring fresh ideas and creativity to one of Canada's most respected and forward-moving horse publications.
This Intermediate Graphic Design position, available immediately, is best suited to an energetic individual who seeks a new challenge every month. The ideal candidate will work well in a team environment.
Job Title: Graphic Designer
Publication: Trot Magazine
Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Duties include:
- Designing ads for the magazine and outside clients
- Working with clients to create innovative campaigns
- Head-up the design and client interaction of the classified section
- Cover design
- Ability to design layouts when required
- In-house design for Standardbred Canada and Trot Magazine
- Web banners
Requirements:
- Degree or Diploma in Graphic Design, or equivalent
- Minimum 1-2 years experience in a professional environment, or extensive freelance experience (including pre-press), preferably with a magazine.
- Proficiency using Mac platforms
- Adobe CS2 (minimum)
- Expert Photoshop skills
- Strong understanding of both InDesign and Quark
- Ability to work under strict editorial deadlines
- Sensitivity to client requests, excellent social skills
- Very strong ability to multi-task, having numerous designs consecutively on-the-go
- Solid understanding of graphic design for print, including basic colour correction, photo retouching skills, typography, trapping, etc.
Additional Assets:
- Horse racing background, or any Equine background
- Understanding of font management, color correction and a practical understanding of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design
- A great sense of humor and drive to bring something unique and innovative to a very grounded industry
