With a perfect pocket steer from driver J.R. Plante, Aerial Victory was able to save the best for last and soar to victory in the mile and five-eighths $20,000 Xtreme Challenge Trot on Saturday night as part of Xtreme Horsepower at Georgian Downs.
As Lindy Five Hundred (Steve Byron) held sway on the front end for the majority of the mile, Aerial Victory stayed on his helmet in second until the field hit the backstretch for the final time. As Search Mission (Keith Jones) made a rush with three-eighths of a mile to go, Plante pulled pocket and took off like a rocket. At the wire, Aerial Victory was all alone and tripped the timer in 3:21.2.
Search Mission finished second with Servaz (Anders Wolden) besting pacesetter Lindy Five Hundred for third.
Danny Girard trains Aerial Victory (New Victory - Dell Ridge Diane) for owner Joe Ruppel of Listowel, Ont.
