MD Gaming Referendum Bill Introduced
A bill which would ultimately allow residents of Maryland to decide, via referendum, whether or not to allow expanded gaming in Prince George's County, home to Rosecroft Raceway, was introduced in the state Senate
on Monday evening (February 6).
The bill calls for video lottery terminals and table games at either Rosecroft or at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill.
A report by the Washington Examiner has explained that the legislation is expected to pass the Senate with relative ease, due to the support of Senate President Thomas Miller Jr.
Although, according to the article, the bill is expected to face an uphill battle from that point.
"It's not my bill," Miller was quoted as saying, "and for it to pass it has to be supported by the county executive, the County Council, and the delegations from both chambers."
The bill, sponsored by Senator Douglas J.J. Peters, stipulates that the November ballot question would require a majority of positive votes from county residents in order for expanded gaming to become reality in the county.
