Joyride From Windsor Demo Site
From a distance it had appeared as though the demolition of the former Windsor Raceway was going as planned. Published reports did not indicate that anything out of the ordinary was occurring throughout the process. Well, that all changed this past weekend.
The Windsor Star has published a report which states that an excavator that was being used in the demolition process was stolen and taken on a joyride.
Local police are treating the situation as a motor vehicle theft and recovery process.
The massive excavator was stolen and driven into the nearby Ojibway Park where it tore a 75-metre path into the bush, taking down trees and any other vegetation that was in its path.
The report explains that the keys to the machine were located in its cab. The crane endured $5,000 worth of damage. Additionally, a port-a-potty at the demolition site also took a large hit and was damaged to the tune of $2,000.
If you have any information at all regarding the matter, contact Windsor Police at 519-255-6700 (Ext. 4211) or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
