Still No Deal In Sudbury

SudburyDowns-01.jpg

Earlier this year, officials with Sudbury Downs applied for 32 dates of live racing in 2014. The first of the applied-for dates was to take place this coming Saturday (May 24). With no deal in place, neither the track nor the local horsepeople know when the 2014 Sudbury season will be getting underway, if at all.

According to a report by northernlife.ca, Sudbury Downs Director Andrew MacIsaac has confirmed that negotiations with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. in regard to funding are ongoing. The ORC has not granted the track any 2014 race dates at this point.

The article has quoted Sudbury Downs Owner Pat MacIsaac as saying that the ordeal “has been (a) very stressful experience – not only for the racetrack, but for employees and horsepeople. There's a lot of people involved in the racetrack. People's livelihoods depend on it. So they've been on pins and needles for a while now.”
