Brennan Barred From Big M
Leading reinsman George Brennan has spoken with Trot Insider regarding his recent banishment from the Meadowlands Racetrack.
Last week, Brennan made comments to reporter Hunter Atkins for an article in The New York Times. The piece was in regard to the current situation trainer Lou Pena has found himself in after it was found that roughly 1,700 of his starters raced while in a state of medication violation over the past couple of years.
Just days after Brennan's comments were published, he was informed by officials at the Meadowlands Racetrack that he is now no longer allowed to drive at the famed East Rutherford, New Jersey raceway.
"I was just asked my opinion on a case (the Pena situation) and now I'm not allowed to drive at the Meadowlands," Brennan, who has found much success with Pena-trained mounts in recent years, told Trot Insider.
Brennan, who has recorded 7,378 driving wins in his career, has steered his mounts to over $122-million in purse earnings.
Earlier this year, officials at the Meadowlands Racetrack barred Pena from entering horses at the raceway. Pena, in turn, filed a lawsuit over the matter. The lawsuit was later dismissed in U.S. District Court. Pena then dropped the suit shortly thereafter.
