Gural Comments On Brennan's Barring
Jeff Gural, operator of the Meadowlands Racetrack, has commented on the decision to bar top North American harness driver George Brennan from steering horses at the famed East Rutherford, New Jersey raceway.
In statements given to reporter John Brennan for his column in The Record, Gural confirmed what the top reinsman told Trot Insider earlier Monday: that the barring has come over Brennan's comments in regard to the ongoing Lou Pena situation.
“I was very offended by [Brennan's] remarks about the Pena suspension in the 'Times' (The New York Times)," Gural explained. "It seemed he was saying it is alright to cheat because the object is to win and this is not my philosophy or the impression I want my customers to have. While I agree the rules are confusing and should be uniform, there is no room for Mr. Brennan’s views on this subject.”
