Reps. Still Pushing For Minn. Racino
Although a tentative state budget was agreed to in Minnesota this past Friday, Representatives may reject the deal if there are not stipulations for a racino at Canterbury Park for thoroughbreds, according to a report
.
The state budget impasse has seen live racing at both Canterbury Park and the Running Aces Harness Park cancelled due to the layoff of the Minnesota Racing Commission employees required to conduct racing.
In addition to Canterbury Park, there is also currently a strong push to transform Running Aces into a racino, as well.
An article by the Shakopee Valley News has quoted Representative Michael Beard as saying that he and other representatives have stated that they will not support the budget deal unless Canterbury Park gets expanded gaming.
“Several of us threw down the challenge to leadership that either the racino is part of the deal or we’re not going to vote for a deal,” Beard was quoted as saying. “Now they’re struggling with that in the negotiations.”
