Quebec Breeders Aid Package Details
The Quebec government today made public the details of its three-year, $9.2-million aid program for standardbred breeders, in dire straits since the collapse of
the industry in 2008.
The breeders will receive up to $7,650 for Quebec-bred foals born in 2007 and $6,000 for foals born in 2008, with the actual amount to be determined by the number of eligible horses. The 2007 foals must have been registered with Standardbred Canada by December 31, 2007, and the 2008 foals by September 30 of this year.
The money will go to the owner of the mare at the time of birth.
The government also will provide as much as $50,000 in financial aid to individual breeders willing to make the transition to 'other agricultural activities.'
