Coulter Returns To Ontario
After wrapping up a successful summer stateside, driver Scott Coulter has returned to his regular stomping grounds with a new driving title on his resume.
Coulter discussed his seasonal relocation with Greg Blanchard in an interview during the Ellamony stakes night broadcast on Saturday at Flamboro Downs prior to his victory with the uptrending trotter Call Me Richard in the $11,000 Preferred 2, sponsored by Ontario Racing and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp.
"I spent the entire summer in New York State at Tioga Downs and it's just something I wanted to try out," explained Coulter. "I often thought about going over and trying the States and I was a little stale, I felt stale, so I figured I'm going to make a change and just try something different. And I made the move this summer down there just to give it a go and it worked out amazingly well."
The 'Tan Tornado' tore into town and topped the standings at the Tioga Downs meet with 68 wins, besting defending driving champion Mike Simons by five. Coulter said he was fortunate to have the horsepower to back up his driving talent.
"I landed there, I had some early success and it just took off from there," he said. "It was one of those summers where I couldn't do much wrong and I ended up actually taking the title at Tioga Downs."
While he enjoyed the change of scenery, the Brantford, Ont.-based horseman confirmed that he will be back driving at Flamboro Downs and The Raceway at the Western Fair District this fall and winter.
"Absolutely, this is my home," he said.
