Atlantic Aged Mares Series Sunday

Red Shores’ Sunday program of racing at Summerside Raceway will feature the opening leg of the Atlantic Aged Mares Pacing Series, which is presented by Standardbred Canada, Red Shores and the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association.

The Atlantic Aged Mares Pacing Series will consist of three preliminary legs that will be raced at Summerside (June 19), Truro Raceway (July 23) and the Charlottetown Driving Park (September 17). The final will be contested on October 2 at Summerside. Click here for complete information on the series, which is restricted to pacing mares that are Canadian-sired and/or 100 per cent Canadian owned.

Miss Oromocto (PP5, M. Haig, 5-2) has been named the morning line favourite for the first of Sunday’s opening-leg division. Mark Haig will drive for trainer Melvin Land. Best Risgue will be driven by Jason Hughes from Post 3 and will be in search of her eighth victory of the season. Sendmeasign (who is to be driven by Kenny Arsenault), Ideal Space (Ken Murphy) and strong performer Swingirl (Corey MacPherson) will also take part in the race.

The second of Sunday’s opening-leg divisions (Race 8) will see the favoured Ramblinglily (PP4, W. Cheverie, 5-2) search for her third consecutive win. The Allan Jones trainee will start from Post 4. The six-year-old mare paced her fastest mile of the season (1:56) last week over the CDP and was saddled with an outside post. Shadows Mystery, a winner of her last two races, and All Chocolate, who was charted in 1:56.3 in her last assignment, have also been assessed favourably on the morning line.

Brodys Leona (PP4, C. MacPherson, 5-2) is the morning line favourite for the final opening-leg division (Race 10). The mare is trained by Corey MacPherson and owners Kerry and Emily Taylor and Lisa Richards. Brodys Leona has a win, a second and two thirds from seven races this season. Dustylane MsVickie and Alittleeastermagic have drawn inside of the favourite.

The ‘$100,000 Dash for Cash’ will return to the Prince County oval. The promotion allows customers, who spend $10 or more in a single purchase, to receive a ballot. One player will be selected after Race 9 to pick the official order of finish in Race 14 for the big cash prize.

Post time for Summerside’s 14-dash Sunday program will be 1 p.m.
