Fredericton Denies Re-Zoning Request
On Wednesday, June 15, Fredericton's planning advisory committee voted 4-1 against a zoning change that could have led to Horse Racing New Brunswick operating a facility in the city that could have been able to serve alcohol and have simulcasting and video lottery terminals.
News of the decision comes courtesy of an article by the CBC.
The article has cited HRNB Executive Director Roberta Nixon as saying that the proposed facility would not be primarily focused on wagering.
"It's not our foremost ‘raison d'etre,’” Nixon was quoted as saying, “ It simply is a component.”
The CBC has also run another article on the situation where HRNB Vice President Brock McEachern was quoted as saying that the primary means for the endeavour was to be a restaurant and sports bar.
“I'm a little concerned about the fact they use the word ‘casino’ a lot because it's really not a casino,” McEachern said. “It's a sports bar and eatery and it's going to have more than horse racing, although horse racing will remain our main focus."
