Barrieau Reaches 4,000-Win Milestone
With four victories between two racetracks on Saturday, driver Gilles Barrieau reached the 4,000-win milestone mark.
Barrieau started the day in his hometown of Saint John, New Brunswick where he won the $2,500 Milton Downey Memorial Pace with American Terror at Exhibition Park Raceway. Barrieau then headed to Charlottetown Driving Park in Prince Edward Island and earned three more wins to reach the career milestone.
The 51-year-old reinsman won Charlottetown's $1,350 fifth race with sophomore pacer Pictonian Edge in a nine-length romp for trainer Kevin MacLean and then teamed up with the Ron Matheson stable to sweep the late Daily Double with Clic K in the $2,400 Preferred Pace and Artners In Crime in the $1,900 finale.
Artners In Crime rallied wide at the third quarter mark and drew off by more than eight lengths to win the final race of the day in 1:56.4. Charlottetown's Bobbi Jo Gaudet owns the nine-year-old Artiscape gelding, who carried Barrieau to his 4,000th career win.
