Pinkney On O'Brien Nom.
"I’m pretty proud to be nominated. There are a lot of great horsemen in Canada. And, it’s kind of nice for someone from the Maritimes to be recognized," horseman Phil Pinkney, 71, was quoted as saying about his nomination for an O'Brien Award, which was announced yesterday.
Pinkney made the comments during a telephone interview with The Chronicle Herald.
Pinkney, along with John Kopas, is a finalist for the O'Brien Award of Horsemanship.
The O'Brien Awards are named in honour of the late Joe O'Brien, an outstanding horseman and a member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame. The winners will be announced at the O’Brien Awards banquet on Saturday, January 31, 2009.
