Woodbine Slots Workers Reject Offer
It has been announced that members of Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) Local 533 --- Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. employees that work in the slots area at Woodbine Racetrack --- have rejected the final offer from the OLG and are thus in a position to strike or be locked-out later this month.
The PSAC announced the news on Monday, May 6, stating that it has advised the Conciliation Officer to issue a 'No Board' report, which means workers will be in a legal strike position and the OLG would be able to lock-out employees on or about May 24, 2013.
The contents of the PSAC announcement appear below.
PSAC Local 533 Members Reject the Employers Final Offer
Greetings Sisters and Brothers,
Members of PSAC Local 533 (OLG Slots at Woodbine), have rejected the Employer's Final offer.
The vote results have sent a clear message to the OLG that workers are not satisfied with their working conditions and are willing to take strike action in order to achieve improvements.
Workers want more job security and work life balance (which does not include being on call 24/7 for the OLG) and improved compensation. Workers are demanding the same fairness and equitable treatment that the OLG provides to its Executives and Managers.
The PSAC has advised the Conciliation Officer to issue a "No Board" report, which means workers will be in a legal strike position and the Employer would be able to lock-out employees on or about May 24, 2013.
Your Local Executive and Bargaining Team will work with the PSAC Toronto Regional Office to plan our next steps in preparation for strike action against the OLG.
If you wish to provide us with your contact information in order to be updated please email [email protected] or call (416) 485-3558 and speak to Regional Representatives Brenda Shillington or Nicole Wall or Regional Negotiator Jawara Gairey. Also, visit the www.psac.com/ontario for updates as they become available.
