'Belvidere' Triples In Summit Series
Driver Paul MacKenzie and trainer Kevin Tremblay teamed up to win a pair of Ford Summit Series divisions during the fourth round of action for the $6,000 claiming trotters on Saturday night at Georgian Downs.
The fourth leg of the series was comprised of five more divisions, worth $5,400 each.
MacKenzie and Tremblay picked up their first win on the card with the repeating Belvidere Hanover ($3.20). The eight-year-old trotter's 2:01 half-length score was his third in the series. It followed up a victory in the Oct. 20 first leg and a dead-heat win in the third round on Nov. 3. Belvidere Hanover finished second in the Oct. 27 second leg.
Seven-year-old Rageur Normand ($9.30) held on to earn his first series win for the duo by a neck in 1:59.2. He was third in the opening round and failed to pick up a cheque in the following two legs.
Quebec's Marc Lemay owns both Tremblay-trained trotters.
Second leg winner Northern Minstral ($2.90) returned to victory lane with a 2:00.2 front-end effort for driver Dan Clements and trainer Marty Fine while Twin B Spike Man ($3) followed up last week's victory with a 12 length romp in 1:57.3 for Aaron and Jeff Byron.
Trotting mare Sandhill Angel ($5.80), trained by Bruce Gilkinson, won her series debut in 2:01.3 in rein to Jason Brewer.
The fifth leg of the series will be held on Saturday, November 17 followed by the Gold, Silver and Bronze finals on Saturday, November 24.
