Alagna Fillies Sweep NJSS Splits

A pair of Tony Alagna-trained fillies accounted for victories in half of the four opening leg divisions of the New Jersey Sire Stakes for two-year-old pacers on Friday, July 13 at Meadowlands Racetrack.

In the $24,500 fifth race, Alagna sent out Acquavella (by Western Ideal) and she posted her first career victory in her second start with a length and a half tally over Miss Lauren (Cams Card Shark) and Hilarious Hayley (Rocknroll Hanover). Mike Lachance was at the lines for the 1:53.4 mile. The winner races for John Carver and Mel Hartman.

Alagna was back in the winner’s circle in the $25,000 eighth race with a filly he owns, Sombodythatiustono (Tell All), who finished a head in front of Jerseylicious (Western Ideal). Ideal A Little (Western Ideal) was third by two and a half lengths. Sombodythatiustono, driven by Andy Miller, covered the mile in 1:53.1 in her career debut.

In the first of two divisions for colts, Troon (Rocknroll Hanover) was a three-quarter length winner over the Alagna-trained Cyclone (Rocknroll Hanover) in a 1:54 mile. Matts Away Ten (Matts Scooter) was two and three-quarters back, finishing third in the $24,000 third race. VIP Internet Stable and Gary Bury own Troon, who is trained by John Butenschoen.
