Due to intense rain that arrived in Lexington, Kentucky during the Wednesday, Aug. 5 card of harness racing at The Red Mile, the track cancelled after the first four races due to unsafe track conditions.

Before the storms forced the cancellation of the last 10 races, The Red Mile hosted one of the two scheduled $42,254 Kentucky Commonwealth Series dashes for two-year-old trotting fillies as well as three of the four $21,127 Kentucky Golden Rod Series divisions.

The career-debuting Jot It Down, a Gimpanzee-Ineffable filly driven by Dexter Dunn for trainer Marcus Melander, went pillar to post in the single division of the Kentucky Commonwealth, hitting the beam in 1:56.1, a length better than pocket-chaser Luxe Lindy (Tyler Miller) and late-rallying La Fortuna (Andy McCarthy).

The Golden Rod divisions were won by Mustang Baby (Tim Tetrick) in 1:56.3 for trainer Rodney Debeck, Putitondadstab (Scott Zeron) in 1:56.2 for Lucas Wallin and Martini Friday (Todd McCarthy) in 1:56 for Randal Jerrell.

The Red Mile has rescheduled Wednesday’s remaining state-bred races to a non-wagering card on Sunday, Aug. 9, starting at 3 p.m. The five Kentucky-bred races on the non-wagering card are headlined by the $80,000 USD Kentucky Championship Series opening preliminary for two-year-old trotting fillies, which will be the first of the races held on the non-betting card.

The Red Mile will return to its regularly scheduled harness racing action on Sunday night with a 17-race card starting at 5:05 p.m. Sunday’s pari-mutuel card is headlined by three $80,000 USD Kentucky Championship Series opening preliminary events with one division for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings and two divisions for three-year-old trotting fillies.
