Thwarter Flies In Prospect Series At Flamboro

Harness racing at Flamboro Downs

Thwarter thundered through a 1:57.4 mile to take the faster of two $8,000 Prospect Series Leg 1B divisions for three-year-old trotting fillies on Saturday, May 30 at Flamboro Downs.

She thwarted fellow leaver Iamthat Special (Jason Ryan) with a strong early sprint into the first turn, forcing that rival into the pocket as she moved to the quarter in :29.4. Thwarter led a quiescent field through the half in 1:00.1 and three-quarters in 1:29.1, and she marched away from pocket-sitter Iamthat Special under wraps for Brady Galliers to a 3-3/4-length victory. Just All Out (Scott Young) was third.

Thwarter, owned and trained by John Curran of Coldwarter, Ont., is two-for-two in the Prospect Series this season. She closed to a nose win in Leg 1A on May 15 in 1:59.1 at The Raceway at the Western Fair District. The daughter of Archangel-Muscle Mara has won three times in 16 starts and earned $27,835. She returned $3.50 at the windows.

Silver Pride ($2.30) never looked in danger as she strolled to a 9-1/4-length victory in the other split. Handed a sizable early cushion as three rivals broke stride, the daughter of Alarm Detector-Hallywood Hills cruised through :30.2, 1:01.4 and 1:31.4 fractions and stopped the timer in 2:01.1 for driver Samuel Fillion. Twittle Sticks (Anthony Haughan) held on for second over Abby Rose Men (Guy Gagnon), who recovered from an early break for third. Silver Pride, a homebred for Silver Stables of Venise-en-Quebec, Que. is trained by Jean-Francois Maguire. She is two-for-four this season and has won four times in 11 career starts and earned $34,815.
