Oak Grove Reminder On Detention Policy For Derby, Oaks

Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel is issuing a reminder that there will be a detention barn for horses competing in the finals of the Oak Grove Trotting Derby and Oaks only. 

The detention policy for Friday, May 15 is outlined below:

  • All horses must be in their detention stall by 1 p.m. CT on Friday, May 15 for their finals.
  • Only licensed Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation (KHRG) owners/trainers/drivers/grooms will be permitted to touch and work with said horses and must check in with Oak Grove security when entering detention area at any time. All trainers must provide contact information with security to be notified of anything concerning their horses in the overnight hours.
  • Per 810 KAR 8:025, no supplements or medication of any kind are allowed within 24 hours. Any violation of this rule may be subject to penalty and/or scratch.
  • Any and all feed is subject to inspection by Oak Grove and KHRG staff.
  • Horses are allowed to walk inside paddock confines or be hand walked and grazed inside the confined fenced area between the paddock and the track. No horse will leave the front entrance of the paddock or go beyond the far fencing proceeding to the Overnight Ship-In Barn or may be subject to scratch.
  • Any and all instructions by Oak Grove security or KHRG staff will be strictly adhered to. 

The policy for Saturday, May 16, the day of the race, is outlined below:

  • All Derby and Oaks finals participants will be allowed to jog their horses if they so choose on the morning of May 16 from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. All horses must wear their provided back pad to denote their participation in the Derby or Oaks while they are on the track. Horses are allowed to go to the track and return immediately to the paddock to bathe with no deviations.
  • Horses are allowed to walk inside paddock confines or be hand walked and grazed inside the confined fenced area between the paddock and the track. No horse will leave the front entrance of the paddock or go beyond the far fencing proceeding to the Overnight Ship-In Barn or may be subject to scratch.
  • Any and all horses are subject to veterinarian inspection by the KHRG state vets.
