Calicojack Hanover Cruises Once Again
Woodbine Mohawk Park hosted 10 qualifying dashes on Friday, March 27 as more horses begin to return from winter training and prepare for spring racing.
Fastest of all on Friday: Calicojack Hanover, who dropped a full second from his 1:54.3 qualifying effort six days ago.
An off-the-pace performer in his first two appearances this year, Calicojack Hanover cut all the fractions on Friday for driver Tyler Jones. After clearing to the lead from post eight through a :28.4 opening panel, Calicojack Hanover handed over middle splits of :57.4 and 1:26 before pacing home in :27.3 for the 1:53.3 decision. Figment (Scott Young) followed in second throughout and finished 2-1/4 lengths in arrears with Ayeaye Captain Deo (James MacDonald) a strong-closing third in his four-year-old debut.
A finalist for Older Pacing Horse honours at the 2025 O'Brien Awards, Calicojack Hanover (Captaintreacherous-Charisma Hanover) earned a speed badge of 1:49 during his four-year-old season for trainer Luc Blais and owner Determination of Montreal, Que. He enters his five-year-old season with more than $518,000 in purse earnings.
