P.E.I. To Host Breeders Conference This Weekend

A foal by the water in P.E.I.

The Island Breeders Conference, presented by the Prince Edward Island Standardbred Breeders Association (PEISBA) and the Prince Edward Island Harness Racing Industry Association (PEIHRIA), will take place on Saturday, March 14 at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park in the grandstand.

Doors open at 12:30 p.m. (ADT) and the conference begins at 1 p.m. (ADT). 

The conference will include the following topics:

  • Dr. Ian Moore kicks off the conference and will join virtually to discuss yearling selection.
  • A veterinary panel consisting of Dr. Best, Dr. Mellish and Dr. Stoughton will discuss the first 24 hours of foaling.
  • Veterinary student Micheala Greene will discuss biosecurity and emerging viruses.
  • A trainer panel consisting of William Lanigan, Earl Watts, Paul Langille and Joe Baxter will discuss the care and training of stakes horses.

The PEISBA annual general meeting will follow the conference. It will include the P.E.I. Colt Stakes awards for the 2025 racing season, an update on the Island breeding industry and PEISBA business.
