Racy Roxy A Wins Saratoga Mares Open
Racy Roxy A and driver Jay Randall won the $20,833 Fillies & Mares Open Handicap Pace at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Monday afternoon, Oct. 28.
The Rob Harmon-trained distaffer returned from a two-month-long stint at Plainridge Park where she enjoyed success with Randall in the sulky for a win and four runner-up finishes in seven starts.
In Saratoga's Monday feature, the six-year-old Mr Feelgood mare drew post four in what wound up being a six-horse Open and Randall was content taking Racy Roxy A back early to race from off the pace. With fast first-half fractions of :27.3 and 56 seconds being posted, Racy Roxy A sat patiently in lap one before making her move approaching the 1:24.4 three-quarter pole. From there, she and favourite P L Princess C (Aaron Byron) went charging up from the back of the pack and Racy Roxy A surged past her rivals in the stretch before drawing out to prevail by a length in a mile clocked in 1:53.4. American Tour N (Wally Hennessey) finished third over pacesetter Magical Maya A (Larry Stalbaum).
Racy Roxy A paid $10.80 in a mild upset in what was her seventh win of the 2024 season from 33 starts and her fourth victory competing in Saratoga's Mares Open class this year.
Racy Roxy A gave her owner, Mike Casalino Jr., his second Open victory in a three-day span at the Spa after his Slip The Hundy N prevailed in Saturday evening’s Open Handicap Pace. Randall piloted Slip The Hundy N to the pacer’s third Open score in just over a month’s time and also guided By The Book to back-to-back Open Trot wins this month.
Live harness racing continues on Tuesday afternoon at Saratoga with a 12 p.m. start to the matinee.
