Charmbo Prince Ekes Out Preferred Win
Charmbo Prince returned to his winning ways Monday at Grand River Raceway thanks in part to a patient approach by driver Paul MacKenzie.
The five-year-old son of Royalty For Life-Hetties Charm wanted nothing to do with the early speed in the $11,000 Preferred Trot, but he was a force to be reckoned with in the late stages of the eight-horse affair.
MacKenzie got away sixth with Charmbo Prince, who watched Willyorwonthe and Kameran Hanover battle through first-half fractions of :27.4 and :57. Charmbo Prince was on the move while positioned sixth at the mid-way point, but he made a rapid attack in the backstretch and actually had the lead while racing parked past the three-quarter pole in 1:27.
