Update On Governor's Plate, Chappell Mares Stakes
Red Shores Summerside and the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association (PEIHRIA) announced on Wednesday (June 8) an update on the dates and conditions for the 2022 Governor's Plate and Ruby Chappell Memorial Stakes for mares.
“At the request of the City of Summerside and the Prince County Horsemen’s Club, the 2022 Governor's Plate eliminations presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge, as well as the eliminations for the Ruby Chappell Memorial Mares event, will now be held on Friday, July 8 at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway to support the Lobster Carnival,” said Lee Drake, Red Shores Manager of Racing and Broadcast. “The finals for both events will be held as planned on Saturday, July 16. We also want to thank Warren Ellis at Summerside Chrysler Dodge for his continued support.”
The PEI Harness Racing Industry Association and Red Shores also announced that the 2022 Governor's Plate final purse has been increased to $30,000. In addition, the eliminations will compete for a purse of $6,000, with the Bob Dewar Memorial consolation purse increased to $7,500.
“We are pleased to be able to increase the purse of Summerside’s signature event to $30,000," said Blaine MacPherson, PEIHRIA Chair. “With increased purses for both the Gold Cup and Saucer and Governors Plate finals, as well as the introduction of the Atlantic Invitational Series leading to the Premiers Cup, we look forward to a very exciting racing season at the Invitational level."
