World Record For Sheer Desire
The Red Mile wrapped up the Bluegrass Series this afternoon for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings with Sheer Desire equaling the world record of 1:49.3 in the first division.
Hay Goodlooking (Brian Sears) ran loose on the lead through uncontested fractions of :25.4 and :52 before starting to back through the field at the three-quarters of 1:22.4. The backfield caught up to him at that point with Lightning Elvis (Mike LaChance) inheriting the lead. Ahead Of The Curve (Jody Jamieson) and Sheer Desire (Dave Palone) tipped off cover, collared the leader and duked it out down the stretch with Sheer Desire getting a neck up to hit the line in 1:49.3.

In the second division for $84,350, Schoolkids (Tim Tetrick) made a first-over move past the :56 half-mile mark from the four-hole. The son of I Am A Fool advanced to the lead ahead of the early pacesetter Annieswesterncard (Yannick Gingras). The two battled in the stretch, with Schoolkids prevailing by over a length in 1:51.4.
Mclaren (Luc Ouellette) closed well for second and Annieswesterncard finished third.

With Ron Pierce at the reins, the son of Real Desire claimed the lead before the half in :56.2 and never looked back. Carnivore pulled away from the field winning by seven and a half lengths in 1:51.3.
Sand Benelli (Tim Tetrick) was second with Gypsy Artisan (Dave Palone) getting up for the shot spot.
The Jack Darling pupil notched his fifth win in eight starts boosting his bankroll to $246,779 for Jack Darling Stables Ltd., of Cambridge, Ont.
In the next $85,350 two-year-old pacing division, Best Dream Seeker, a son of Cambest, rallied from off the pace for the victory in a new mark of 1:51.4.
My Old Friend John (Trace Tetrick) finished a half-length back in second and Fireintheshark (Tim Tetrick) was third.
