Anti-Gaming Zoning Bill Tabled In MD

On Tuesday, November 15 in Maryland, the Prince George's County Council voted in favour of tabling a bill which would alter zoning laws and thus ban the implementation of expanded gaming in the county, which includes Rosecroft Raceway

.

Penn National Gaming recently acquired Rosecroft, got live racing back up and running, and has been quite vocal in its desire to add slots gaming at the raceway.

November 15 marked the final session of the 2011 legislative session, therefore the issue will be addressed in 2012 at the earliest.

"I opposed CB-49 because it was unnecessary legislation," County Executive Rushern Baker, III was quoted as saying. "Slots are not allowed in Prince George's County per the Maryland constitution. I want to see all the options on the table, the costs and benefits to any proposed expansion of gaming, and whether it would be the right course of action we would want to take for the future of Prince George's County."
