MPHRC Rules On Allard
The Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission has released its ruling in regard to the appeal of horseman Simon Allard, who was involved in an incident on August 20, Gold Cup & Saucer Night, at Red Shores' Charlottetown Driving Park
.
Allard had been handed a one-month full suspension after it was found that he was in violation of MPHRC Rule No. 8, 358-4, 356-3-4, 353, 67-6-11B. Allard appealed the ruling. The appeal was heard in Kensington, Prince Edward Island on November 4.
The contents of the MPHRC's ruling explains that after a race on the August 20 program, Allard went out of his way to deliberately drive his horse into Earl Smith, a fellow driver that had been steering a mount in the race.
Allard, who was present at the hearing, said, "I was not proud of what I did and I came in person to apologize for that.”
The MPHRC denied Allard's appeal, but did vary the penalties (which appear below).
- Allard’s full suspension is reduced from 30 days to 15 days, November 29, 2011 to December 13, 2011 (inclusive)
- Allard’s fine is increased to $1,500
- Allard will be on probation for six months, November 29, 2011 to May 28, 2012
