First West Meadows Card Drawn
With the Yorkton Exhibition's meet of live racing having wrapped up this past Saturday, Saskatchewan's standardbred racing scene now shifts to West Meadows Raceway, where organizers are licking their lips in anticipation
.
The connections of 63 horses entered their charges to contest the nine-dash card, which will get underway with a 1:00 p.m. first-race post time.
A pair of events will headline the card, the first of four to be hosted at the track this year.
A group of seven will face the gate for Race 7, which is a $4,000 event for the Top 8 four-year-old money-earning pacers in the province so far this year.
The morning-line oddsmaker has given the early nod to a bay gelding by The Panderosa named Sophio Hanover (PP1, K. Rogers, 3-1). After having arrived onto the provincial scene from Fraser Downs, the student of Shawn Worthen was a consistent top-three finisher at Yorkton throughout the summer.
One dash earlier, in Race 6, a field of six will face the gate for the $2,100 Open Pace. The Richard Remillard-trained and driven Tajwon will start from Post 4. The seven-year-old son of Tajma Hall will be looking for his fourth consecutive victory. The 2-1 morning line favourite has recorded his last three wins over three different raceways (Miami, Deloraine, Yorkton).
Last week, West Meadows Raceway President Jane Grainger told Trot Insider that everyone involved in the raceway endeavour are excited about this coming Sunday.
"We are very excited for opening day," she said. "It has been a long road and a tremendous amount of work but after three years of planning and building it is kind of special to see… It's really starting to sink in now!"
