Amendment To Ill. Racino Bill Coming?
According to Representative Lou Lang, if Illinois Governor Pat Quinn does not outline his issues with the hot-button gaming expansion bill that he has been presented with, legislators may be soon present him with their version of a 'clean-up' bill, which could see many elements changed
.
An article by the Chicago News Co-operative has cited Lang, the author of the bill which Governor Quinn is currently pondering, as saying that it would not be a wise move if the governor changes the bill and sends it back to lawmakers for a re-vote.
Time is ticking a little louder in regard to the whole process, as October 25 will the first day of the fall veto session.
“Substantial changes would put the speaker (House Speaker Michael Madigan) in a position of weighing compliance (with the state constitution),” Lang was quoted as saying. “That’s not a good way to go. If the governor thinks we’re going to have substantial changes by way of amendatory veto, I think he’s mistaken.”
The current version of the bill would see the state of Illinois be the home of five new casinos. Existing casinos would be able to expand their operations and all of the state's raceways would be able to erect an area for slot machine gaming. In addition, slots would be installed at the Illinois State Fairgrounds and at Chicago airports.
