It has been reported that former Louisiana Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association Chairman Sean Alfortish has pleaded guilty to a charge of fraud and conspiracy.

An article by WWL TV explains that Alfortish was set to go on trial to face the charges when he entered the 11th-hour guilty plea.

Alfortish was set to face a 29-count fraud indictment, which, among other aspects, dealt with rigging an election to remain president of a non-profit aimed at supporting the state's horseracing industry.

Alfortish now faces up to five years in prison and up to a quarter-million dollars in fines.
