Attorney: Evidence Suggests Dutrow Is Good For The Sport
Thoroughbred trainer Rick Dutrow's New York State Racing and Wagering Board hearing came to a conclusion on Friday, June 3
.
A report by The Daily Racing Form leads off by stating that during the final day of the hearing Dutrow said that he has never drugged a horse and that it “would be more than fair’’ to say that he has had a 'checkered' past.
The final day of the hearing saw many industry participants come to the defence of Dutrow, who has been sanctioned at least 64 times for various rules violations in nine different states and at 15 racetracks. He is currently having his state training license scrutinized by the NYSRWB due to a pair of violations which occurred this past November at Aqueduct.
Dutrow's attorney, Michael Koenig, said on Friday that “There was no evidence to suggest that Rick should lose his license’’ and “To the contrary, the evidence was that he is good for the sport. The perception of Rick Dutrow that you see when you 'Google' him was undercut by the actual testimony we heard of live witnesses both who we called as witnesses and equally important those that the State Racing and Wagering board called as witnesses.’’
The NYSRWB is expected to announce its decision on the fate of Dutrow's license in August.
