Fleming, WFR Excited Over ORDC

Many of Ontario’s top drivers will be on hand at Western Fair Raceway on Friday, March 11 for the Ontario Regional Driving Championship which determines Ontario’s representatives to the National Driving Championship

.

Simon Allard, Gord Brown, Scott Coulter, Trevor Henry, Jody Jamieson, John MacDonald, Doug McNair and Scott Zeron will participate in the eight-race contest. The top two finishers determined by points will go on to the NDC on May 7 at Charlottetown Driving Park in PEI.

This is the second time that Western Fair has hosted the competition and track officials are looking forward to the event.

“We’re thrilled to be hosting the Ontario championship for the second time,” said Western Fair Racing and Gaming Manger Ian Fleming. “Any time you get a collection of drivers of this calibre you know it’s going to be exciting. And, with this format, everyone is going to get the best possible chance to win. It should be a great show.

“It’s been a good start to the 2011 season for us here and an event like this will give us a nice boost as we head into the homestretch of the meet. We still have our 50th Anniversary celebrations to look forward to on May 17 and of course our signature race, the Molson Pace, on May 27.”

In conjunction with the championship, Western Fair will be hosting a Facebook contest, details of which will be released at a later date.

The winner of the NDC will be Canada’s representative at the World Driving Championship, which is being hosted by the U.S. from July 31 to August 5.

Jamieson won the WDC in 2001 when it was hosted in Finland. In victory, Jamieson became the third Canadian driver to capture the honour after Herve Filion won the inaugural event in 1970 and his nephew Sylvain Filion won in 1999 in Australia.
