Illinois Gaming Bill Advances

According to a report, on Wednesday, January 5 an Illinois House Executive Committee approved gaming expansion bill SB737 by a vote of 8-3. The legislation, if enacted, could bring expanded gaming to racetracks in the state

An article by stltoday.com explains that the bill now moves to the full house and vote could come as soon as today. If the legislation survives that vote it would then head back to the Senate.

The report explains that provisions include allowing slots at the tracks, and setting up five new casinos to join the state's current 10-casino industry. The new ones would be in Chicago (run by the city), two in the north and south Chicago suburbs, one in Rockford on the Wisconsin border, and one in Danville on the Indiana border.

The bill must be acted on by the House by Wednesday, January 12.
