Warrawee Kiwi Cruises In Xtreme Sprint

Not even a Post 7 start could keep Warrawee Kiwi and driver Trevor Henry away from victory lane in Tuesday’s $7,000 Xtreme Sprint at Western Fair

Raceway.

Henry and Warrawee Kiwi battled with Panastasia (Doug McNair) to the quarter pole in :26.2 before the former muscled his way to the lead. Once in charge, the four-year-old son of Dragon Again paced a :30-second follow-up frame to seal the win by a pair of lengths – covering the half-mile affair in :56.2. Race favourite Panastasia held on for second in the seven-horse tilt, with Stonebridge Gem (Nick Boyd) grabbing third.

Sent off at odds of 9-1, Warrawee Kiwi struck a pose for the track photographer for the eighth time this season in 30 trips to the track for trainer Ghyslain Gagne and owner Bill Manes of Rockwood, ON. The victory bumped the pacer’s overall bankroll to $50,093.

Here’s how points were distributed to tonight’s starters:

Warrawee Kiwi - 50 pts
Panastasia – 25 pts
Stonebridge Gem – 12 pts
Daylon Blizzard – 8 pts
Rebels Trios – 5 pts
Da Plane Boss - 4 pts
Dusty Lane Tate - 4 pts

The Xtreme Sprint is open to pacers, four years old and upwards that have started in an $8,000 or less claiming event at a racetrack in Ontario after August 31, 2010.

The top nine point earners from the Xtreme Sprint legs will advance to the $20,000 championship, a one-lap, five-eighths-of-one-mile dash, at Georgian Downs on November 16.

Drivers Doug McNair and Trevor Henry continue their battle atop the leaderboard at Western Fair Raceway, and Tuesday’s card was dominated by that dynamic duo. McNair notched five victories on the card, while Henry enjoyed a four-win performance.

Driver Paul Davies came away unscathed following a spill in Race 9 with pacer Had Me From Hello. Davies was dumped from the bike when his sulky wheel became tangled with the sulky wheel of Lifelooksgood and driver Dustin McClure.

Officials from Western Fair Raceway confirmed with Trot Insider both horse and driver came away from the mishap no worse for the wear.
