Canada's 2021 Win Leaders - 13 Wins
MAGICAL COWGIRL
Returning to the races for the first time since 2016, seven-year-old pacing mare Magical Cowgirl racked up 13 wins, with a dozen other top three finishes from 42 outings racing in P.E.I. while being claimed between the barns of Ronnie Gass and Patrick Murphy, who currently co-owns with Faith Mitchum of Mount Pearl, Nfld. The daughter of Brandons Cowboy took a mark of 1:57.4 on September 3 at Charlottetown Driving Park and earned $15,860 in purses throughout the year.
MAPPOS LION
Mappos Lion went 13-for-20 in 2021 while earning $65,917 for owner/breeder Carol Campbell of Baddeck, N.S. The four-year-old Sunshine Beach gelding started his season with trainer Clare MacDonald at Truro Raceway before shipping to the Paul MacDonell stable in Ontario, where he took his mark of 1:50 at Woodbine Mohawk Park amid a six-race win streak.
MYSTIFYING
Three-year-old pacing filly Mystifying earned the majority of her 13 wins competing in Atlantic stakes for trainer Darryl MacLean and co-owners Gordon MacLean of Winsloe, P.E.I. and Stephen Downey of Quispamsis, N.B. prior to being sold. The Source Of Pride filly, who banked $76,999 from 21 starts, set a 1:53.3 track record in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes on September 18 at Charlottetown Driving Park.
SOMETIME SOMEWHERE
Sometime Somewhere boasts 13 wins during his four-year-old campaign for trainer Nathan Sobey and owner Robert Jones of Stony Plain, Alta. The son of Somebeachsomewhere went on a tear this summer at Century Downs winning seven in a row with a 1:52.2 career-best performance on September 7. He's banked $49,545 in purses throughout his 20-start season.
TIME TO DANCE
Time To Dance rocked the Atlantic racing scene, winning 13 races from just 18 starts, with three runner-up finishes this year. Back-to-back wins in July were among his many highlights as he dominated the Governor's Plate at Summerside Raceway and was the star of the Lindsay Construction Cup in a Truro Raceway track record mile of 1:51.3. He also etched his name in the Exhibition Park record books courtesy of a 1:53.1 romp in the Rod Goguen Memorial later in the season. The five-year-old A Rocknroll Dance gelding, who earned $48,547, was trained and driven by Marc Campbell for owners Brent Campbell of Charlottetown, P.E.I. and Matthew McDonald of Edwards, Ont.
