Historic Start To 2020 Breeders Crown

The opening night of the 2020 Breeders Crown championship series provided multiple firsts as Canadian-connected On A Streak knocked off the top trotting colts, while two pacing colts could not be separated at the wire to mark the first dead heat in Breeders Crown history.

Trot Insider provided live coverage of Friday's Breeders Crown Finals from Harrah’s Hoosier Park Racing & Casino. The recaps of those races are available below.

Colts Make Breeders Crown History
Perfect Sting has become the first two-year-old pacing colt to win the Breeders Crown and finish his season undefeated after capturing the $600,000 Breeders Crown for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings on Friday (Oct. 30) at Harrah's Hoosier Park Racing & Casino. But he had to share to winner's portion of the purse as he hit the wire in unison with Summa Cum Laude...read on

Canadian-connected On A Streak showed his win in the William Wellwood Memorial final was no fluke by capturing the $600,000 Breeders Crown for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings on Friday (October 30) at Harrah's Hoosier Park Racing & Casino...read on

Total handle brought in for the evening was $1,823,520 versus a tally of $1,773,884 accumulated during the Breeders Crown Friday event at Harrah’s Hoosier Park in 2017. The evening also produced an $18,000 carryover in the Hoosier High Five, which will kick off wagering in Race 15 on Saturday with a $60,000 Guaranteed pool. The .20 cent minimum wager provides a low 12 percent takeout, making the option very appealing to racing fans.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with the first night of the Breeders Crown,” said Rick Moore, vice president and general manager of racing. “The handle exceeded 2017 with two less Breeders Crown races this year. But even more than that, the execution by our team for those on track was outstanding. Everyone had a great time in a socially distant manner. And, the fact that the last Breeders Crown produced the first dead heat in history, and the last race produced a carryover in the Hoosier High Five is the cherry on the sundae. Because of that carryover, we will offer a $60,000 guarantee on the Hoosier High Five on Saturday.”

Hoosier Park is set to host the 2020 Breeders Crown on Friday (Oct. 30) and Saturday (Oct. 31) with limited spectators, in accordance with the approved health and safety plan for the event. The first event in 2017 was a rousing success, producing record handle and rave reviews.

Just like in The Mohawk Million, nearly one-third of the horses in the Breeders Crown for 2yo colt trotters broke stride. Does anyone still think that The Mohawk Million should be a race for 2yo trotting colts??
