Weekend Ohio Sires Stakes All Set
Nine Ohio Sires Stakes divisions are set to be contested this weekend at Scioto Downs.
Two-year-old trotting colts and fillies will be featured Friday night (July 17) and three-year-old pacing colts will be in the spotlight on Saturday night (July 18). Post time each night will be at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
A total of 37 trotting fillies are set to battle over the course of four $40,000 Leg 2 divisions, while 25 trotting colts are set to wage war over the course of three $40,000 Leg 2 divisions. Stallions represented in these sires stakes contests Friday night include 18 by Uncle Peter (nine colts/nine fillies); seven by MVP (three colts/four fillies); seven by Triumphant Caviar (two colts/five fillies); five by Full Count (one colt/four fillies); and four by Break The Bank K (one colt/three fillies).
The stallions Cash Hall and Wishing Stone will both have three foals each in these sires stakes divisions, while Corragioso, Deep Chip, Dontyouforgetit and Southwind Spirit will be represented by two foals each. As well, the stallions And Away We Go, Big Rigs, Credit Fashion, Spring Goal, Stormin Normand, Victory Sam and Winning Fireworks are all represented by one foal each.
In the first trotting filly division (Race 1), Swizzle Hanover will leave from Post 4 for trainer Randy Bendis, who conditions the Uncle Peter lass for partner Reed Broadway. Swizzle Hanover won her sires stakes Leg 1 handily in 1:57.1 on July 3 at Northfield Park.
Herculisa heads up the second filly division (Race 7) from Post 9 for trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. and the Jesmeral Stable. A winner of two races lifetime with $21,812 in earnings, the daughter of My MVP won her sires stakes Leg 1 division in 1:58.1.
In the third filly trotting division (Race 10), a pair of Leg 1 winners will return. More Spirit (Post 2), a daughter of Southwind Spirit trained by Charles Myrick for the Second Chance Stable, won in 1:58.3, while the Break The Bank K lass Chip It In (Post 7) scored in 1:58.2 for trainer Chris Beaver, who co-owns her along with Meolia, Robinson and RBH Ventures.
A Doll Face is set to start from Post 3 in the fourth filly division (Race 12) for trainer Kayne Kauffman and owner Doug Millard. The Dontyouforgetit lass captured her sires stakes Leg 1 test in 1:59.4.
Among the trotting colts, returning sires stakes Leg 1 winners include Spyder The Striker (Post 3) and Shouldaknownbetter (Post 7) in Race 3. Spyder The Striker is a son of Uncle Peter conditioned by Chris Beaver for the partnership of Beaver, Beaver, Fleming and VIP Stable. The youngster won his Leg 1 in 1:56.3 by six and a half lengths. Shouldaknownbetter, a Deep Chip colt, is trained and owned by Shane Arsenault and captured his division in 1:58.2.
Perron, a son of MVP who is also conditioned by Chris Beaver, heads up Race 14, and will start from Post 7. Owned by Stewart, Wright, Wilcox and Doherty, Perron won his Leg 1 division in 1:58.4.
On Saturday night, two $50,000 sires stakes divisions of sires stakes sophomore pacers have been carded as Race 3 and 8. Of the 14 sires stakes eligibles moving postward, three are by Ohio stallions Dragon Again and Pet Rock, while two are by Rockin Amadeus. Stallions represented by one foal each include Big Bad John, Big Risk, Mr Wiggles, Nob Hill High, Western Vintage and Yankee Cruiser.
In the first division (Race 3) Stanford Court, a son of Nob Hill High, will start from Post 7 for trainer Brian Brown. Owned by Mondillo, Lombardo, Hen-Shaut and Lightning 5 Racing, Standford Court was second in Leg 1 to Ocean Rock in 1:50.4 and captured Leg 2 in 1:50.2. He has career earnings of $132,210.
Elver Hanover (Post 3) will face off against Ocean Rock (Post 7) in the second division (Race 8). Elver Hanover, a son of Yankee Cruiser, is trained by Ron Burke for Burke Racing, Jablonskyk, Mellilo, J&T Silva-Purnel-Libby and won Leg 2 in 1:51 and sports a lifetime bankroll of $388,450. Ocean Rock is a Rockin Amadeus colt trained by Christi Noble for breeder-owner Sandra Burnett. The colt captured leg 1 in 1:50.2 and was second in Leg 2 in 1:50.4 to Stanford Court, and has amassed $201,677 lifetime.
