Trites Takes Five At Truro
There was no stopping driver Todd Trites during Friday’s card at Truro Raceway, as the sulky sitter scratched out a five-win performance on the nine-race program.
Trites swept the first three races thanks to victories with Saulsbrook Kaisen (2:00.1), Atomic Sena (1:59.2) and Mr Yokassippi (2:01.3).
He returned to take the checkered flag in Race 6 with Shanghai B G (1:59.1) and then closed out the card by taking Race 9 with Eye Forty Seven (1:57).
The productive night at the office helped Trites increase his yearly win total to 46 while his lifetime win total climbed to 2,305. He’s stashed away lifetime earnings in excess of $3.6 million.
After putting together a string of second-place finishes – four of the, in fact – Catch Twenty Two grabbed all the marbles in Friday’s $1,675 ‘Winners Over’ feature at Truro Raceway.
Catch Twenty Two got away third in the early going for trainer/driver Darren Crowe, who watched Stars Above sprint to the lead and hang up first-half fractions of :28.1 and :58. Crowe wheeled his charge to the outside in the third quarter while Stars Above tripped the teletimer at the three-quarter pole in 1:27.1.
Catch Twenty was more than two lengths off the leader at the three-quarter pole, but a :29.2 final quarter by the gelding was good enough to earn him the one-length triumph over Stars Above in 1:57. Rusty Riley was another length back in third.
Sent off at odds of 9-2, the six-year-old son of Roll With Joe-Make Me Blush improved her 2019 record to 4-10-3 from 23 starts with the victory. The 16-time winner is closing in on $50,000 in lifetime earnings.
