Stakes Galore At Summerside
Summerside Raceway played host to 13 dashes on Sunday (July 28), as every race on the card was either a division of the Callbeck Stakes for two-year-olds or the Tyndal Semple Memorial for three-year-old trotters.
Mile Hill Willie and driver Gilles Barrieau captured the quickest $5,700 Semple Memorial split, as they won in 1:59.1 for owner-trainer Paul Morrison of Cardigan. The clocking went down as a new track record. The other divisions were won by Thelastonestanding (who was driven by Brian MacPhee, in 2:00.2) and Dusty Lane Titan (Marc Campbell, 2:01.4).
Howmacrivercruiser was an easy winner in her $7,100 Callbeck Stakes split for two-year-old pacing fillies with a 2:02.2, open-length victory for Barrieau. Jackie Matheson trains the daughter of Articulator for owner Howmac Farms Ltd., of North Wiltshire.
Driver Mark Bradley, who recorded a driving triple, won all the other three divisions of the Callbeck for juvenile fillies. Bettorthanbobbi hit the wire first in the opening division in 1:58.2. The Tom Weatherbie-trained Smiling Dialing was an eight length victress in 1:59.1. Bradley teamed up with trainer Stephen Quinn for his third win, as Watch Me Dance had a maiden-breaking score in 2:01 during her $7,100 Callbeck division.
In freshman colt action, Tobins Rebel won his Callbeck Stakes split for two-year-old pacers, as he wired his $6,900 division for trainer-driver Barrieau in 1:59.2 for owner Daniel Ross of Belfast. Mr Kelly was placed to first in his split with a corrected time of 1:59.2 for driver Adam Merner and trainer Melissa Rennie. Woodmere colts won the final two divisions, as Woodmere Rollhario (Campbell) scored in 2:01 for trainer Kevin MacLean and Woodmere Rollnpop delivering as a popular winner in 1:59 for trainer-driver Clare MacDonald.
MacDonald trainee Mabou Ridge remains undefeated through three career starts, as he won his $6,100 Callbeck division for two-year-old trotters in 2:06.2 for owner Arnold Rankin of Antigonish, NS. Westview Star took his mark in the other $6,100 division courtesy of a neck decision in 2:05.2 for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Stephen Gass.
