A Handful Of Wins For Hoerdt
The Kelly Hoerdt stable was unstoppable on Friday night (January 18) at Fraser Downs, with its horses competing in five races on the program and winning them all.
Hoerdt trainees produced a 1-2 finish in the evening's featured $12,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace with Blue Grotto ($5.30) turning the tables on track record holder Cusdmagicdragon, who matched the track record for older pacing mares in last week's edition.
As usual, Tahiti Seelster played the role of pacesetter and put up opening panels of :27.4 and :57.2 in sloppy conditions before 8-5 favourite Cusdmagicdragon took the lead at the 1:25.1 third quarter mark and then her tracking stablemate went by to score this time in 1:54 flat by 1-3/4 lengths. Gord Abbott trainees Custard Lite and Thats It finished third and fourth ahead of Tahiti Seelster.
Blue Grotto, a four-year-old daughter of Art Major out of Capri Hanover with 10 career wins and a new lifetime mark, is owned by Topnotch Stables of Beaumont, Alta.
Hoerdt's other winners on the 12-race program included Northfield Nellie ($3.20), Hot Kiss ($5.80), Lively Rocket ($2.80) and Noisy Nora ($5.40).
Hoerdt now boasts 15 wins from 20 starts along with a pair of runner-up finishes so far this month for a flashy 0.805 rating to kick off 2019.
