Woodside Charm Is For Real
Woodside Charm showed that her dominant elimination performance from last week was no fluke after another thoroughly impressive effort to capture the $600,000 Breeders Crown Final for two-year-old trotting fillies.
Verlin Yoder sent the unbeaten filly to the position of command off the gate and trotted through an honest opening panel of :27.4. Yoder then backed down the tempo and stole a soft second quarter with no challengers, hitting the half in :57.1. The Ice Dutchess (Yannick Gingras) faltered in a first-over bid down the backside and Woodside Charm effortlessly cruised through three quarters in 1:25.2. Pocket-sitting When Dovescry (Simon Allard) tried to make it interesting with a right-line move turning for home but Woodside Charm found another gear for a virtually motionless Yoder, and that duo pulled away for the win in 1:54.1.
"You can't put it into words, it probably won't sink in for a couple of weeks. It's pretty awesome.
"The top turn is a little slippery tonight and I knew I had to get it when I got out of there and she responded like a good horse is supposed to."
Woodside Charm (Chapter Seven - Fireworks Hanover) remains perfect in seven for Yoder of Bell, Florida, and gives the horseman his first Breeders Crown trophy. The lion's share of the purse lifts Woodside Charm's earnings to $521,658.
According to Yoder, the future plans for Woodside Charm includes the following: "going to Florida, unthaw, and see what next year brings."
