Ford On Sports Wagering Revenue
Mark Ford, the president of the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey, has issued a brief statement in regard to sports wagering revenue that is generated at the Meadowlands Racetrack.
The FanDuel Sportsbook at the Meadowlands opened to the public this past Saturday (July 14). The new 5,310 square-foot sports betting retail location is the closest in proximity to New York City, which makes it a go-to sports wagering destination in the northeast.
According to the statement issued by Ford, the SBOANJ has been in discussion with the Meadowlands’ Jeff Gural in regard to the sharing of sport-wagering revenue.
“We have had ongoing dialogue with Jeff and the Meadowlands,” Ford has said. “In one of our more recent meetings, it was clearly understood, and stated by Jeff, that the horsemen would participate in sport’s betting revenues with details yet to be worked out.”
Ford went on to say, “It was exciting to see the FanDuel-Meadowlands opening, coinciding with a night of spectacular racing (Meadowlands Pace Night), and hopefully this is just the start of a new era at the Meadowlands.”

Bettors have nowhere to go
Bettors have nowhere to go but to the Meadowlands right now. Once mobile betting apps are introduced, tracks may just become places people come to cash their online sports betting tickets.
