Brydson, Lawson Lawsuits Settled

The competing lawsuits that were filed by Woodbine Entertainment Group CEO Jim Lawson and Sherry Brydson, the richest woman in Canada, have been settled.

News of the settlements come courtesy of reports by both the Toronto Sun and the Toronto Star. Westerkirk Capital Inc. has also issued an official statement on the matter:

Westerkirk Capital Inc. and James J. Lawson today announced that legal proceedings between them have been discontinued and are at end.

Mr. Lawson has apologized unreservedly to Ms. Brydson for the circumstances that led to his departure from Westerkirk. Mr. Lawson has also unequivocally withdrawn all prior allegations made by him involving Ms. Brydson, her family, employees and advisors in the legal proceedings and otherwise.

None of the parties to these proceedings nor any of their representatives will be making any further comment regarding these matters.

The civil trial involving Lawson and Brydson commenced earlier this month in a Toronto courtroom.

In 2012, Lawson was fired from the investment company Westerkirk Capital Inc., according to an article by the National Post.

In 2013, Lawson, who ran Westerkirk Capital for eight years, turned around and filed a multi-million-dollar wrongful dismissal lawsuit.

Brydson is Westerkirk’s sole director and executive chair. Her legal team had filed a counterclaim against Lawson.
